What Kind of Studio We Are
We are a recreational studio. We teach real technique to dancers who are here because they love to dance, and we measure a dancer against where she started rather than against the girl next to her at the barre. As our own curriculum puts it, a variety of body types, interests, genders and strengths is what makes a class successful and enriching.
Performing is part of the year here, and it starts gently. In December every class does an in-class performance, showing their progress to close friends and family from the side of the room. Nothing to buy a ticket for, nowhere to drive.
At the end of the year there is a recital, with tumbling and Musical Dance Theater each getting their own so every programme has a show that suits it. Bring grandparents, cousins and neighbours — we don’t charge for recital tickets.
Our adult classes are the exception to both. They run for the enjoyment of dancing, with nothing to rehearse for and nothing to prepare beyond turning up.
Our teachers know their dancers by name, and dancers move up when they are ready rather than on a schedule. Our philosophy page goes into more detail on how we teach.
